Web design and AI automation for the North Shore

For a business in North Vancouver or West Vancouver, the North Shore is really three municipalities: the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver and West Vancouver. That affects your licence, your Google listing and how customers search for you. This page covers all three, plus where a website, AI call answering, automation and business email fit. AIVIQ is based in Vancouver and works remotely, with no North Shore office and no on-site visits.

Three municipalities

City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, West Vancouver

The City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver are separate municipalities with separate councils and separate business licences, even though both use "North Vancouver" in mailing addresses. The City is the smaller, more central area around Lonsdale. The District wraps around it to the east, west and north. West Vancouver, to the west, is its own municipality again.

If you are not sure which North Vancouver you are in, your property tax notice or the municipal maps will tell you. It matters for your licence, and it helps to get it right on your website and Google listing.

How the North Shore searches

"North Shore", the city, or the neighbourhood

North Shore customers search at three levels. Some type "North Shore" because that is how people talk about the area. Some type "North Vancouver" or "West Van". And many type the neighbourhood: "plumber Lonsdale", "yoga Lynn Valley", "café Deep Cove" or "physio Ambleside".

Your website should work at all three without stuffing keywords. Use "North Shore" in your general description, name the municipalities you cover on your service pages, and mention the neighbourhoods you genuinely serve in sentences a customer would read. If you are a storefront in Dundarave or Lower Lonsdale, say so on your contact page, with directions written the way locals give them.

Getting this right is part of our local SEO work, which starts with matching your website, profile and directory listings exactly.

Google Business Profile

One profile, honest service areas

A common mistake on the North Shore is creating extra Google profiles to "cover" each municipality. Google expects one profile per real business location, and duplicate or virtual-office listings can be removed.

  • Storefront or clinic: show your address, and make sure your City or District location matches your website.
  • Mobile service from home: hide the address and add North Vancouver, West Vancouver and any other places you really cover as service areas.
  • Both: if you serve customers at your premises and also travel to them, a hybrid setup may be allowed.

Our guide to Google Business Profile for service-area businesses explains each option.

Calls on the road

When you are across a bridge and the phone rings

Plenty of North Shore trades and services work across the water in Vancouver as well as at home, and time on the road or on a job means missed calls. Before buying anything, check your call log for a week or two: how many calls went unanswered, and what did those callers want?

If most were routine questions about hours, availability, service areas or booking, an AI receptionist can answer them from information you approve and pass anything else to you. You can call or text Ivy, AIVIQ's own receptionist, on +1 778 900 9944 to see how it handles a handoff. Phone numbers, minutes and SMS are separate provider costs.

Your website

A site that says where you work and what happens next

A North Shore service page needs to answer the same few things every time: what the service is, which municipalities and neighbourhoods you cover, how pricing works, and how to get in touch from a phone. If you already have copy and photos, a Basic Website Build of up to five simple pages is CAD $150. A Small Business Site with a page for each service, forms and analytics is typically CAD $899 to $1,200. The full process is on our web design page.

Before you brief anyone, gather these:

  • Your service list. One line per service, in the words customers use, not trade jargon.
  • Your real coverage. Which municipalities and neighbourhoods you take work in, and any you avoid, such as long trips at rush hour.
  • Your top questions. The five things callers ask before they book. These become the core of each page.
  • Photos of real work. Your own photos, even from a phone, usually do more than stock images.
Email and admin

Fix the email, then automate one job

If enquiries go quiet, check your email before blaming the website. A contact form sending to a mailbox nobody reads, or missing SPF and DMARC records, can lose enquiries silently. The free public email check shows what your domain has today, and our business email help starts at CAD $49 for one identified fix.

Once messages are arriving reliably, AI automation can take on one workflow, such as drafting enquiry replies or a weekly owner report. Operations Starter is CAD $1,995 one-time, and drafts wait for a person to approve them.

Local practicalities

Licences and local connections

Check with your own municipality about the licence for your type of business, and with any other municipalities you work in, since a licence from one North Shore municipality does not automatically cover the others. If you are a mobile trade, the Metro Vancouver Inter-Municipal Business Licence may help: check whether your trade and the municipalities you work in participate.

For listings and referrals, your local chamber of commerce is a sensible place to start. Look at what membership includes and whether its members are the customers or referral partners you want.

Questions people ask

Is my North Vancouver business in the City or the District?

A North Vancouver mailing address can be in either. The City of North Vancouver is the smaller municipality around Lonsdale; the District of North Vancouver surrounds it and includes areas such as Lynn Valley, Deep Cove and Edgemont Village. Your property tax notice or the municipalities' own maps will confirm which one you are in.

Do I need a licence from both North Vancouvers?

They are separate municipalities, so a licence from one does not automatically cover the other. Check with the municipality where your business is based, and with any others you work in. If you are a mobile trade, check whether the Inter-Municipal Business Licence covers your trade and the municipalities you work in.

Should my website say North Shore or North Vancouver?

Use both where they fit. Many people say North Shore in conversation, but many also search for the specific city or neighbourhood. Name the municipalities and neighbourhoods you really serve, in plain sentences.

Can I make a separate Google Business Profile for West Vancouver?

Not just to cover another area. Google expects one profile per real business location. If you have one base and travel to customers, use one profile with service areas that include North Vancouver and West Vancouver.

I miss calls while I am on a job. What can help?

Start by measuring how many calls you miss and when. If routine questions are most of them, an AI receptionist can answer from approved information and pass the rest to you. If most calls need your judgement, a better callback routine may be enough.
